If you’re looking to run out and by that hot new electric vehicle (EV) now that the Inflation Reduction Act has passed, you probably want to know what’s on the market.
You’ve likely heard of this little car company called Tesla (lol), but if you’re wondering what else is out there bringing style and sophistication to the EV experience, we’ve got some ideas for you.
As with anything, the hottest looking cars come at the highest prices. But if you’ve got the coin, why not buy the ride? (if you don’t, you still have options)
So who’s bringing the sexy to the EV market?

This 2-passenger speedster has no door handles (your entry is via key fob), goes 0-to-60 in under 3 seconds, and charges up to 80% in just 12 minutes. Sleek, speedy and topping our “sexy” list, the Evija is PERFECT for LA traffic … not!
Audi e-Tron GT

Sleek, fast – it looks like a $100k car should
|
This speedy sedan has its pluses and minuses, but no one will dispute how hot you look getting into and out of this EV. The most expensive model goes 0-to-60 in just under 3 seconds, but if you don’t mind adding an extra ˝ second to get up to 60 mph the less expensive models should be just fine for you. The e-Tron can charge up to 80% in about 22 minutes.
Porsche Taycan

200 - 280 miles |

$86,032 |

It’s a Porsche – ‘nuff said!
|
A Porsche with a lower starting price than the Tesla Model Y? Wow! And less might actually be more here. The Taycan goes 0-to-60 in about 2.8 seconds, and can charge up to 80% in about 22 minutes.
Mercedes Benz EQS

This sexy new sedan from Mercedes is getting lots of buzz
|
The 2022 Editor’s Choice by Car and Driver is sleek, spacious and speedy. Keeping up with the best of the electrics, the top-end Benz EV goes 0-to-60 in 3.7 seconds. The smaller version EQE doesn’t trail far behind, and these Benz EVs can charge up to 80% in about 35 minutes.
Lucid Air
Available: |
Now |
Range: |
406-520 miles |
Price: |
Starts at $89,050 |
Sex Appeal: |
The sedan with sleek lines and the longest range
|
What it may lack in sex appeal (not much), the Lucid Air more than makes up for in its impressive range. It goes 0-to-60 in 3 seconds and charges up to about 300 miles in 21 minutes. Plus, new owners get 3 years of FREE fast charging at Electrify America charging stations.
Of course, if you can’t afford the sexiest EV, the good news is … there are sexy EVs for less out on the market. Now, less may still be a year’s salary, but hey, amortize that over a decade, subtract out the money you’d spend for gas and maintenance (no oil changes, etc.) and you may just find the price is worth it.
Lexus RZ 450e
Available: |
late November 2022 |
Range: |
225 miles |
Price: |
$55,000 - $70,000 est. |
Sex Appeal: |
Maintains that sleek, futuristic styling emblematic of Lexus
|
The luxury brand’s first all-electric vehicle is being called a good first effort by the automaker. This SUV may not be the fastest, it may not have the longest range, but Lexus and non-Lexus fans alike will love the styling of this drool-worthy SUV. How they feel about the yoke (vs. a steering wheel) is yet to be determined. [Don’t worry, the yoke is optional]
Jaguar I-PACE

Not the New Hotness, but still sexy
|
Another sexy SUV that’s available now is the iPace. This Jaguar can charge roughly 63 miles of range in about 15 minutes, and goes 0-to-60 in 4.5 seconds. I’m a fan, but the lack of headroom was a problem, and I'm only 6ft. This compact SUV is a little too compact for me.
Sexiness For LESS
Still not comfortable with spending a year’s salary on a car … even an EV? Why not buy a sexy electric car that’s also affordable, puts that gas money back into your pocket, and leaves you with enough coin to take your date or spouse out for dinner and not force you to actually have to live in your car. Be sure to look for those state and local rebates and tax credits to drop that price down even further.
KIA EV6

Stylish, comfortable and (thankfully) affordable
|
Affordability and style meet in the KIA EV6. With state and local rebates you may be able to get this compact SUV for under $40k. It can charge up to 80 miles in just 18 minutes. 0-to-60 in 4.5 seconds.
Hyundai Ioniq 6

Q1 2023 |
Range: |
379 miles |

Futuristic goes retro with this glam EV
|
This hotly anticipated sedan seeks to compete with the Tesla Model 3. The most surprising stat – charging up to 300 miles in only 15-18 minutes. Great price plus another carrot -- 3 years free charging on Electrify America chargers.
Honorable Mention
They may not be as sexy, but these EVs are definitely worth a look.
BMW i4

If you like big, imposing grills, this is your EV

The mid-range i4 goes from 0-to-60 in 3.3 seconds. Fast charging can add up to 108 miles in just 10 minutes.
2023 Polestar 2

Deliveries begin September 2022 |
Range: |
270 miles |
Price: |
$49,800 |
Sex Appeal: |
Well, its a really good EV ...
|
More practical than pretty, this EV offers range comparable to the i4 and other cars in its class. Zero-to-60 in 6.8 seconds puts it in the slower lane of EVs (the dual motor version is faster at 4.1 seconds), but the Polestar has a reputation as a comfortable ride. This EV also claims to charge to 80% from a dead battery in 40 minutes. Another plus? 2 years of free charging at Electrify America stations.

A well-designed SUV – on the exterior
|
Yes, its sexy. Originally I ranked it much higher on this list based on design, but this new EV has already had a recall due to the potential for the car’s wheels to fall off. Yeah, that. Also, charging up to 80% takes just under 1 hour. And its 0-to-60? It takes 6.4 seconds. Based on its issues, Toyota needs to make improvements to this EV for its performance to equate with its stylish design.
What's Left Out
I know some of you are saying “where’s the Tesla?” “What about the Ford Mustang EV?” Yes, the Polestar made it on the list but the Mustang didn’t. The Mustang EV is very popular (even with some apparent controversy regarding its styling) so it hardly needs any introduction.
And Tesla? Tesla is in a class of its own. Sexy, stylish and the top selling luxury vehicle in the US. Putting Tesla on this list just seems redundant. We all know how great the S, X and Y are.
But what about the Nissan LEAF and Chevy BOLT? True, they are the cheapest EVs you can buy (and I don’t mean that in terms of quality – I own a LEAF and LOVE it!) … they are also well-known by consumers, just like the Tesla and Mustang. It seemed only fair to let the newbies and lesser-knowns have a little time in the spotlight.
If you think my listing is totally whack, tweet me and let me know. I’m always open to other views, and listings are made to be updated. In the meantime … go EV!
